I went to Florence to look at art, so that's what these pictures show mostly. Sightseeing for two weeks from dawn to dusk, ended for me with an episode of "Stendhal Syndrome," or exhaustion and fainting from an overdose of powerful and miraculously beautiful art. Renaissance people in Renaissance paintings and sculpture fascinated me more than the other tourists crowding the streets. I went to Florence to look at art, so that's what these pictures show mostly. Sightseeing for two weeks from dawn to dusk, ended for me with an episode of "Stendhal Syndrome," or exhaustion and fainting from an overdose of powerful and miraculously beautiful art. Renaissance people in Renaissance paintings and sculpture fascinated me more than the other tourists crowding the streets. For photographs to make, I looked for compelling details: architecture, sculpture, frescoes, graffiti, street life, and the faces in the paintings. But I couldn't escape a couple of standard scenes from the standard viewpoints. If you have been to Florence, you'll recognize some old friends.
